What happens after structural calculations are submitted?
A clear view of comments, revisions, contractor queries and the limits of a standard design appointment.

Start with the decision
First, confirm who is making the submission and who will receive and coordinate any questions. Keep the calculation package, associated drawings and revision references together so everyone can identify the information under review. Building regulations approval and planning permission are separate matters; sending calculations does not by itself establish that every permission or project requirement has been resolved. Ask the person managing your application to confirm the next steps for your location and project.
Keep the scope proportionate
If review comments arrive, forward the complete comments and the relevant drawing versions to the engineer. Ask which items fall within the appointment and whether a change to the proposal affects the scope or fee. Keep a record of the response and any revised documents issued. Before work progresses, the project team should be clear about the current design information and any unresolved questions. Do not mix superseded calculations with a newer architectural layout.
Turn information into action
During construction, tell the engineer if the contractor finds conditions that differ from the design assumptions or proposes an alteration. Ask whether further design, inspection or coordination is needed before that change is implemented. A design appointment does not automatically include every later visit or query, so check the agreed scope.
