Loft conversion engineering creates a safe habitable floor, resolves trimmed stair openings and roof alterations, and transfers the new loads back through the existing home. Dormers, retained chimneys and complex roof forms are considered as part of one load path.
Why it is required
It is required because existing ceiling joists are rarely designed as a habitable floor and roof alterations can remove elements that currently provide support or restraint. The design must work within tight depths while protecting the rooms below.
